2004 Press Release

Kate Mitchell Named CEO As CopperEye Launches Into the U.S. Market for High Performance Database Solutions

UK-Based Software Innovator For High-Performance Data Stores in High-Transaction Business Environments Creates U.S. Presence As Market Opportunity Expands

SAN FRANCISCO - March 31, 2004 - CopperEye today launched its expansion into the United States by announcing the appointment of a new, American CEO with a deep background in the global database industry; establishing US headquarters in San Francisco, and announcing general availability of the CopperEye Software Developers Kit (see separate SDK release).

Kate Mitchell, CopperEye's new chief executive officer, brings to her post nearly three decades of wide-ranging customer-facing executive success with such database leaders as Oracle and IBM. Immediately prior to joining CopperEye, Mitchell was senior vice president, marketing & business development, for SeeBeyond Technology Corporation, the global leader in business integration, where she worked with such companies as General Motors, DuPont, Pfizer and Sprint to help grow revenues 400% in her four-year tenure.

"Real-time business requires real-time analysis and decision making. And with the explosive growth of electronic data, the old ways of managing data are neither scalable nor affordable," Mitchell said. "With its mature and proven product, CopperEye's patented technology obliterates an architectural bottleneck which has existed for decades, for the first time allowing applications to handle very high transaction volumes while delivering very fast query performance."

The Market Opportunity for CopperEye

One market in which CopperEye competes is the Emerging Database Optimization Technologies Software marketplace, which IDC projects will grow to $950 million in revenue within three years. This market segment, part of the $14 billion relational and object-relational database market, is being fueled by the 200 percent annual growth in corporate data volumes, which is expected to accelerate dramatically with the introduction of such new technologies as 3G in mobile communications, radio-frequency identification (RFID) in retail and manufacturing, and information management to support Sarbanes-Oxley in public corporations across all industries in the US.

The enormous growth in data volumes created by modern business operations is dwarfing the ability of companies to capture and use the data to enhance their competitiveness. New technologies will make the situation exponentially more challenging, creating both opportunities for competitive advantage for those companies that can capture, analyze and apply the data to their operations, and extraordinary vulnerabilities for those businesses that cannot.

Using CopperEye, businesses and application developers will be able to implement intelligent applications which combine the performance of operational systems with the analytical power of data warehouse applications, a combination that has traditionally been difficult to achieve and virtually impossible in high-transaction environments with large historical storage requirements.

Until now, companies have been forced to acquire ever-larger, ever-more-expensive hardware, software and IT staff as they architect solutions to support transaction volumes and enormous databases. Although some of the largest global enterprises have the resources to spend their way out of the problem in this manner, most companies need a new, equally powerful but more cost-effective approach to capturing, managing and analyzing their growing volumes of data in ways that help them optimize their business operations.

About CopperEye

CopperEye is a provider of enterprise data management software that delivers an order-of-magnitude cost savings for companies needing to capture, store and quickly access business event data where the volume is measured in the tens- or hundreds-of-terabytes. This is increasingly important as corporate data volumes more than double every year and government regulations require companies to keep data longer. Using CopperEye, companies are able to improve global business and implement more powerful business applications at dramatically lower costs than competing solutions. CopperEye's underlying technology is a new, patented indexing approach that delivers a quantum leap in performance over traditional indexing alternatives.

CopperEye has offices in Bath, U.K. and Stamford, Conn., U.S.A. For further information, please visit http://www.coppereye.com.
